The Teacher Education Program at SIUC is fully accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and by the State Certification Board. The Teacher Education Program is administered by the Dean of the College of Education and Human Services. Teacher education programs approved by the State teacher Certification Board are offered in elementary education, early childhood education, special education, secondary education, and in majors which lead to the special certificate to teach K-12.
Admission to the College of Education and Human Services DOES NOT guarantee admission to the Teacher Education Program. Admission to the Teacher Education Program must be pursued by ALL students seeking state certification. Listed below are the specific requirements for admission. Application packets and information are available in the Wham Building, Room 135. Students are encouraged to apply early in their programs.
STUDENTS ADMITTED TO SIUC AFTER AUGUST 15, 1996, MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:

Admit Dates
A total of 320 students will be admitted each year to the Teacher Education Program (TEP). A maximum of 160 students will be admitted on October 1 (the deadline for completed applications is September 20). A maximum of 160 students will be admitted on March 1 (the deadline for completed applications is February 20).
Requirements*
A student is eligible to make formal application for admission to the teacher education program when the following criteria have been met:

The student has a minimum of 30 semester hours of completed college work.

The student has an overall grade point average of 2.5 or higher (4.0 scale).***

The student has completed GED 101 and GED 102 with a grade of "C" or better.

The Student has obtained three letters of recommendation from college/university faculty.**

The student has an ACT composite score of 18 or higher.

** Early Childhood majors have additional admission requirements.
***CDS 2.75 is required for admission to programs in teacher education.

An overall grade point average of at least 2.75 (4.0 scale);

Completion of English 101 and 102 with a grade of C or better;

Three letters of recommendation from college or university faculty;

Pass the Illinois Test of Basic Skills.
